The International League 2012 schedule should be released soon, however the IronPigs have revealed theirs with Monday’s “fridge magnet” giveaway sponsored once again by Sacred Heart Hospital.
Reading’s own Rich Thompson was awarded the pleasure of viewing what the fans are retrieving from their refrigerators for the 2012 season. Richie T is the current IronPig’s all-time leader of games played with 433 and stolen bases with 110.
Interestingly, the IronPig’s 2012 kickoff begins with an away series at S/WB on April 5th and 6th. Coca-Cola Park has been rumored to be a replacement for Moosic’s PNC Field during its planned renovations. So, will the IronPigs opening day in fact be an away game?
The Pigs official home opener is scheduled for Wed April 11, 2012 against the Syracuse Chiefs. There is a season-long 9 game home stand at the end of June through the 4th of July. Lehigh Valley will conclude the season in Allentown against Buffalo on Mon September, 3.

OINK ON!

Again, I don’t expect CCP to get the nod, if only because it’s unclear if the Yanks’ systemwide relationship with Pepsi would allow it.
SIX straight games against the PawSox? I hope the IL has the taste to at least rotate in a different crew of umps when they switch cities…
And good thing they ain’t going to the Gwins during the deathly hot season…
Not that Raleigh-Durham in the hot season is much better…
At least they won’t have far to travel to the All-Star Break (Rochester to Buffalo is almost like Allentown to NY)
love that one-game “series” against SYR 8/31…
Richie T. is 2 for 2 making the schedule magnet and the wall calendar. It’s time he gets a bobblehead!! And that’s Jimmy T.’s take!!
Oink responsibly!!
“if only because it’s unclear if the Yanks’ systemwide relationship with Pepsi would allow it.”
That’s not going to have any bearing on the decision.
The decision will be based on putting the Yankees in a facility that actually has a market to sell tickets, not Ottawa, and where they will not disturb the schedule of the team they share space with.
Perosonally I think you’ll see them sharing space with one of their own affiliates before you see them in a place like Syracuse or Buffalo and the chances of them playing at CCP next year are zero.
From WNEP.com:
In the meantime, fans of the Baby Bombers are left wondering when the stadium closes for part of or all of next year, where will the local Yanks be playing?
Stadium Authority members said they are just not sure yet, could be Allentown, Rochester, Buffalo or any other location.
Local fans we spoke with said they’re rooting for the closest location.
“From Hazleton, it’s the same distance, for us it’s an hour either way, I know when they had problems with the field last year, we went down and drove and it was fine. It’s a nice stadium down there, too,” said Mary Berger of Hazleton.
Members of the Stadium Authority said they hope to know soom, perhaps by next month, where the Baby Bombers will play next year.
Time will tell….
