IronPig Game Results 9/5/11 – Pigs Pull the Tarp Into the Playoffs!

Leading by a score of 4-1 the Pigs had the bases loaded with 1 out in the 6th inning and Erik Kratz at the plate, after a brief delay the umpire decided enough was enough. The game was called due to rain awarding the Pigs their 80th win of the season and the Wild Card Berth in the International League Playoffs.

PIGS IN THE PLAYOFFS!

So before I mention everyone who insisted on a playoff berth when they heard Ryne Sandberg would be the manager this season or the Pulling the Tarp incident in Buffalo earlier this season I will say this,

Congratulations to each and every IronPig! You worked hard and made this season the first winning season in IronPigs’ history. We truly appreciate what you’ve done for us fans and will forever be remembered in our hearts. Thank you!!

So we are looking at hosting Pawtucket at home on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Pigs last faced the Pawsox in July when they went 1-3 in Pawtucket and 2-2 at home.

It’s gonna be fun!

OinK!

  1. So we ended up on both sides of “pull the tarp” this year so i guess they cancel each other out. Cant wait for the playoffs this is going to be execiting! Thanks to all of the Pigs this year for a great regular season now make it an even better playoffs!

  2. Way to go ‘Pigs! A much better way to win a playoff berth than counting on Gwinnett to lose or be rained out! Ryne Sandberg is my hero, and every IronPig gets a heart “Thank you!” from me for the superlative effort they put for this year to give us our first playoff appearance after 3 dismal years in existence.

Let’s crank up the noise machine for the series against Pawtucket. They’ve been the toughest team we’ve faced this year, but they’re missing a couple of people (pitchers) they had earlier. This time we’re gonna open us a big can of whoop-ass!

What a difference 5 days makes!! Remember the 8/31 post, Fat Lady? I said I was not giving up and for those who jumped off the bandwagon, you are welcome back. Congratulations to the Pigs!
What a season and more to come. PLAYOFF TIME!!!

Thank you to Ryne Sandberg, Rod Nichols, Sal Rende, & all of the players for giving the Pigs’ faithful a wonderful season to watch and cheer! Wishing you the best in the playoffs – you score the runs & we’ll bring the noise!!! OINK!

  5. This is Un-freakin-believable! Thanks to Ryno and his staff, to ALL the players (I know Ronnie Belliard is reading this and smiling somewhere) and THOUSANDS of fans that OINKED them on to VICTORY!

Now if that dang Tropical Event Lee can calm down enough so we can actually play the next round…

As far as the tarp incident is concerned, I feel justice has been served. I’ve said all along to Don’t Stop Believin! Now that it’s a reality there Ain’t No Stoppin Us Now!! Thank you IronPigs for a FANTASTIC season. Just imagine the electricity that will be felt at the Coke come Wed. You guys played your hearts out and we appreciate it. Now it’s time to keep on keeping on in the post season and take it to those RedSox!! We’re behind you!!! And that’s Jimmy T’s take.

    Oink on little piggies!!

Awesome game! Was relieved when it was decided to stop and put the game on rain delay. Water was ponding badly on the warning track with rain coming down at a good rate. A minor technicality for “pigs to fly” since a member of the grounds crew told us when we asked that the game was called. Had to do the wait time to deem the field unplayable and officially award the game to LV. It was a small crowd at Alliance Park Stadium but the die-hard fans on both sides came to see the final game of the regular season regardless of the rain. Thank you Mr. Sandberg and thank you to all the players and staff that have given the fans lots to cheer about. And it’s not over yet. GO PIGS! OINK ON!

RD-Great mention of Belliard, and there were other contributors, some smaller than others, who are no longer here. But in my opinion, the biggest one is JEFF LARISH.

Don’t forget Jason Grilli, Shoeless Eddie Bonine and of course Brian Gordon. Anyone have any updates on Larish and Bonine? I hope they’re doing well in their recovery.
