Playoff Results 9/9/11 – I LOVE THIS GAME!

The IronPigs took a thriller home tonight winning game 2 of this 5 game series in the 10th inning by a score of 3-2!

I will save the stats, I’m sure you’ve heard or looked at the box score but the 10th inning…

Galvis got it started with a single. Rich Thompson then went to sacrifice bunt but the ball was bobbled and he ended up on first. Posednik was successful with his sac bunt leaving the Pig’s two fastest runners on second and third with one out. Frandsen was intentionally walked and up came Brandon Moss Hogg. With the infield in he hit a dribbling ball up the middle that got through and the Pigs walked off with a victory pushing a 2-0 series into Pawtucket tomorrow!

Speaking of Moss.. he was Mr. IronPig tonight! He got the Pigs on the board early with a solo HR and narrowly missed a second HR for only an RBI double.

The crowd was into this game even more than last night! I love it! A comment was made to me that it was so loud that it was hard to hear the Noise Nation and that’s how I like it! The crowd really felt like the end of the movie Major League.. everyone on their feet, clapping and waving what ever they could.

In other news, Columbus completed their sweep of Durham tonight. They await the end of the Pig/Pawsox series.

OINKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!

  1. Buuuuut… the odds still are against ’em… 6 of 8 to the Sawx, nothin’ to sneeze at…

  2. I could hear Noise Nation loud and clear on the online broadcast. Dan’s ginormous cowbell was even distinguishable from the others — especially after the cameraman cut to him so I could see where the lower pitch was coming from — and once or twice, I thought I heard a “Gimme a K!” amid the din, though the response was much louder than usual. 🙂

June 16, 2011 was a day of importance in Ironpigs history. Not because it was the day Ronnie Belliard retired but because it was the day Cody Overbeck, Ryan Edell, Phillippe Aumont and Justin De Fratus were promoted to the Ironpigs from AA Reading.

Edell only allowed 4 earned runs in his last 32.1 regular season innings and then allowed just 1 earned run tonight in 5.2 IP. Aumont has struggled at times with his control but has shown he can overpower the most experienced AAA hitters with his 96-97 mph fastball and buckle their knees with an off the table curve. Overbeck struggled when he was first called up but has adapted well to the International League, hitting .412 (14-34) in his last 10 regular season games. I’ve been a De Fratus fan ever since they converted him from a starter to a reliever but I was concerned that he wasn’t quite ready for AAA when he struggled after first being promoted. All he has done since then is become the lights out “go-to” guy when the game is on the line, replacing Schwimer as the Ironpigs’ closer. After 2 playoff games he is 1-0 with 1 Save. In 3 innings he has allowed no hits, no walks and has struck out 6. He always had the tools but now he has learned how to use them effectively. His fastball is usually in the 94 mph range but tonight on a few occasions he reached back and hit 96. I thought we’d have him as a closer with the Ironpigs in 2012 but now I’m not so sure. He will go to spring training 2012 with a good shot of earning a spot in the Phillies bullpen. He’ll likely receive a late season promotion once the AAA playoffs are over. I love seeing the success these guys are enjoying but I only wish they’d stick around a little longer.

Well, just about everything. I just about fell out of my seat when I saw Dane Sardinha in the starting lineup. These are the playoffs and you have to put your best team on the field every game. Wasn’t Kratz the team MVP? Anyway, all’s well that ends well.

Couldn’t agree more with Decal. Haven’t second guessed Ryno often this year, but the moves to have Sardinha and Bozied in the line up instead of Kratz and Overbeck (arguably the Pigs hottest hitter at this point), were stunners to me. The pair responded to their opportunity to play by going 0-6 with 3 K’s, stranding 4 runners in the process. In arguably the most important game in franchise history, I don’t get this at all.

  5. PIGS FLY AGAIN! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy!
