While I would like to hope a near-championship team like the ’11 Pigs would stick together another year, what is the average rate of return for IronPigs players? I would imagine it’s pretty low, even lower if you take out anyone not young enough to be considered a “prospect”.
Our Best hope is the Phillies continue to succeed and the IronPigs continue gain a reputation among players as a great place to play with great fans, so Ruben can stack the roster again with some AAAA or ever-so-slightly-former MLB players for another playoff run.
In 2009 we got Tracy, Cervenak, Thompson and I believe Mazone back. In 2010 it was Tracy and Thompson and Jason Anderson. This year we had a lot of younger guys hanging around but most have been scooped by the Phillies to complete their bullpen. A lot of maybe’s that depend on Philly needs and spring training performances. Otherwise, with most of these guys closing in on retirement, the chances of getting more than a handful back each year are not likely.
Mazone was also back in 2010.
Well, Zagurski had already been designated for assignment when Moss, Kratz and Savery were added to the 40 man roster (De Fratus was already on the 40 man roster). When a player is DFA’d the team must do 1 of 3 things with him: (1) trade him, (2) waive him, or (3) release him. At least by trading him they’ll eventually get something in return, as long as it isn’t Cody Ransom. 🙂
Andy Tracy one day contract!
This must sadden Matt Metal, since Zagurski was his favorite player!!! LOL!!!! I really do want to hear your comments Matt…
😦
According to mlb.com player transactions, Juan Perez was outrighted to the Ironpigs. I guess that means he cleared waivers.
Drew Naylor was released.
