More Updates on Rule 5 Draft

In the AAA phase the Phillies lost pitcher Andy Loomis (Reading) to the Orioles, short stop Travis Mattair (Reading) to the Reds and catcher Francisco Diaz (Reading) to the Pirates.

No real impact to the Phillies in the AA round.

  1. I’m not exactly clear on all of the regulations of the Rule 5, but because those players were taken in the AAA phase, they have to be kept at AAA for a certain portion of the season, no? I’m not so familiar with Diaz, and the R-Phils have some other catchers from above and below including Valle and Tuffy available to them. I think Loomis and Mattair were due to help the R-Phils this year, though. In any case, I guess we’ll get to see these guys at CCP, right? Loomis with the Tides, Mattair with the Bats, and Diaz with the Indians (subject to roster abnormalities, injuries, turf toe, etc.).

Did we have Ryan Feierabend down as a re-signed player? According to Todd Zolecki he is signed to the following terms:

Minor league contract for $17,000/mo. Agreement for major league contract for $135,000, $495,000 in major leagues. If not on 25 man roster by June 15th, player will be released if requested.

Phillies also re-signed Dave Bush and signed pitcher David Purcey and LH hitting catcher Steve Lerud. Purcey pitched for the Tigers in 2011 while Lerud played for AA Bowie in the Eastern League.
David Purcey, LHP 4/22/82. Detroit 1-2 5.61 in 33.2 IP. He also threw 11.1 innings for the Toledo Mud Hens. He was a 2004 1st round draft pick by the Toronto Blue Jays and was 8-6 2.69 for the Syracuse Chiefs in 2008
