Looks like Krams Korner got it right when he said John Bowker could end up in Japan.
From mlb trade rumors:
The Phillies released outfielder John Bowker to allow him to pursue an opportunity in Japan, according to a press release. The team’s 40-man roster count now stands at 39.
Bowker, 28, was acquired by the Phillies from the Pirates in August. The former third-round pick hit .306/.348/.482 in 451 Triple-A plate appearances last year, his fourth extended stint at the level.

Also, thought it was worth mentioning, the KBO (Korean Baseball Organization) allows a maximum of 2 foreign players on each team. Brian Gordon was on the SK Wyverns team last year and recent information indicated the team tendered Gordon a contract for next year and had until 12/31/11 to come to terms with him. If he didn’t sign, he would then be eligible to sign anywhere but KBO. According to mykbo.net, as of January 10, 2012 the 2 foreign players with SK Wyverns are Mario Santiago and Aguilino Lopez. Based on that information, it appears (to me) that Brian Gordon didn’t sign with SK and is once again a free agent. Still searching for more information on this one. I’d love to have him back.
The response I received regarding Gordon is yes, it would appear that he is now a free agent. He would not be allowed to sign with any other team in the KBO unless SK Wyverns grants him a full release.
Phillies also signed utility infielder Luis Cruz to a minor league contract. He turns 28 in February and has played in the major leagues with Pittsburgh in ’08 & ’09 and with Milwaukee in ’10. He played winter ball in Mexico this year and hit .340 with 17 HR (sounds like a hitters league). He hit .273 with 9 HR with Round Rock in the Pacific Coast League last year.
