2011 IronPig of the Day – 3/11/2012

It’s getting close to the beginning of the 2012 IronPig season and this warm weather has brought back memories of last year’s great team. Over the next 24 days we will be looking at the 2011 IronPigs and I encourage you to share your memories of the 2011 IronPig of the day!

Today’s IronPig of the Day is Brian Bocock!

The 2011 IronPig baseball card set.

Bocock was with the IronPigs in 2010 and 2011 before being traded to the Pirates last year. Well known for his fielding abilities he did pretty good for the Pigs.

My memory of Brian Bocock is from his, and his wife Natalie’s, assistance with the Noise Nation’s charity cookbook last season. We really appreciated their help and miss having them in the Lehigh Valley.

What is your favorite memory of 2011 IronPig Brian Bocock?

  1. Bocock was one of my favorites mainly because of his defense but he did have some stretches of clutch hits, unfortunately they were few and far between. I remember he had some impressive offensive numbers in 2010 in the second half of the season including an impressive batting record with the bases loaded. I also seem to recall that most of his 8 home runs with the Ironpigs, if not all of them, were hit on the road. And of course his name has been immortalized into baseball terminology:
Bococked – When a player is rushed through the system before they are ready, denying them the opportunity to
develop as a player in the minors.

  2. Yeah, I remember enjoying solid defense. Correct me if I’m wrong, and possibly with the exception of 1/2 season of Jason Donald, the Bocock time was the first time we really had an “above the line” defensive player at shortstop. Also, he was cool to my kids when we met him, which is always nice.
