2011 IronPig of the Day – 3/12/2012

The 2011 IronPig of the day for today is….. Tagg Bozied!

2011 IronPigs baseball card set

Bozied was in the Phillies organization for both Reading and Lehigh Valley. His playing time was limited in 2011 spending a good part of the season with an “Injured Valendia”. If you don’t know what an injured Valendia is… check the glossary at the top of this page.

You may remember Bozied for his antics with the Pigs as the “Most Interesting Man in Baseball”

Or for his antics out in Reading as the Roast Beef RBI Guy…

Or you could be looking forward to his smartphone app the IronPigs will help in in testing this upcoming season. Bozied retired and will still be seen around the park in 2012.

What is your favorite memory of 2011 IronPig Tagg Bozied?

I missed that Tagg retired. My boys really like him. Every game that Tagg played, he had Tyler touch his bat for good luck. It was funny b/c he started it up in Scranton and had a good game (he went 2 for 4 that day) and from then on, it was their tradition.

I’m glad we will still see him around the park. He’s a good guy!!

  2. Yeah, love the Tagg. Those videos were great; hats off to Ryan as well on those. I can’t wait to see what he has in mind for the in-game app, as that was one of my “suggestion box” ideas last year.

    • Gotta agree with Kram, love the Tagg. Last year when I was doing profiles on possible Ironpigs players for 2011 I found some amazing stories on him. Just google his name and read the “Bleacher Report” website story called “The Sad Saga of Tagg Bozied”. I just tried unsuccessfully to find one of those other stories in which they called Tagg Bozied possibly the best power hitter to never play a game in the big leagues. You knew when Tagg Bozied was taking batting practice without even looking because the ball sounded different when he hit it. If Tagg would have been able to get 400 at bats with the Ironpigs last year I’m sure the word “Taggalicious” would be listed in the Noise Nation glossary.

I hope he didn’t retire because of his wife and her health. I know she was hit by a car when he was with the Oakland organization and she was hurt pretty bad.

    • Heather, Jeff Schuler wrote about Tagg a few weeks ago. He and a cousin are going into business under the company name Advertype. The product they are working on is “a mobile phone application that would provide interactive opportunities for spectators at sporting events”. They will be testing the product with the Ironpigs and Reading Phillies this year which is why you will likely see him around Coca-Cola Park this summer. Tagg’s wife, Laura Tinetti, is doing fine. Thanks, Decal!! I was all worried. I think I remember her having some problems during the season last year, which was why he had to take a week or so off.
