Rizzotti Traded to Twins! More Transactions 3-30-12

Per Matt Gelb (@Magelb) on Twitter:

“Matt Rizzotti was traded to Minnesota for cash considerations.”

Bummer, I like him. Good luck Matt!

Some transactions for today:

The White Sox Released Delwyn Young

The White Sox also received former Phillie prospect Greg Golson from the Royals for cash considerations. Might see him back at CCP this summer.

The Phillies received SS Chin-Lung Hu from the Reds for cash but reports show (Matt Gelb via Twitter) that Hu failed his physical. Adds a big question mark at shortstop for the IronPigs if Galvis starts up with the Phillies. The The Hog Blog noted that the Phillies signed Utility man Joe Thurston and I could imagine he might be our shortstop.

The Dodgers released former IronPig Cedric Bowers.

The Phillies released:
RHP Paul Cusick
RHP Rye Davis
RHP Ian Durham
RHP Juary Gomez
RHP Chase Johnson
LHP Rob Cooper
LHP Fabian Cota
LHP Jack Van Leur
1B Mike Marshall
3B Geancarlo Mendez
OF Luis Unda

A lot of transactions going on this week and expect more next week. Those last minute signings after players are released during spring training!

Dodgers also released former IronPigs OF Cory Sullivan

  3. Hearing reports that one of my favorite minor league ballplayers in the Phillies farm system, Eric Pettis was released today. It’s a sad day for those of us on this blog who have had the pleasure of communicating with him through twitter. Wishing him all the best and hoping he catches on with another team.. Baseball can be a tough business sometimes.

No that much of a suprise with Rizzotti.

Guy tore up Eastern League pitching and in his one shot in AAA he gets hurt but even when he was healthy he tanked and got ouplayed by Tracy who won his job back by outplaying Rizz.

Then there was also the “rumors” of Rizz coming into ST in ’11 out of shape and overweight and because of that the organization sent him to Reading to rot last year as a sort of punishment after they gave him a crack at AAA and sent him to the AFL and he returns the favor by supposedly coming into ST looking like the Michelin Man.

He’s a AAAA player that will make the Twins or whomever very happy with his solid minor league contributions when he’s doing his best Tracy impression when he’s 34 and still in AAA.
