134 Batters – 521 Pitches – 0 Runs – IronPigs 4th consecutive shut-out!

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs got their franchise record 4th shut-out in a row Friday night beating the Indianapolis Indians 3-0 to the first sell-out crowd at Coca-Cola Park in 2012.

The Indian’s last six games have been shutouts, and they have been on the short end of five of them.

It has been 40 innings since they last scored; that was in the fourth inning of Monday’s 1-0 win over Norfolk. That also is the lone run the Tribe has scored over the past 53 innings.  “Oy vey!”

Amazingly, Indianapolis (22-19) still leads the West Division by a half-game over Toledo (22-20).

The Pigs are 12-5 in the month of May and an astounding 16-3 in home games! “How do you like all that?”

Stay tuned (hopefully) for a new addition to the Horn & Bell – live from Coca-Cola Park – If it all works out it will be fun.

Anyone know the last time an IL team won 4 shutout games in a row? I’d be interested to know that. I suspect it may have been a while.

On another note, it’s nice to finally see a bit of offense from the ‘Pigs. Other than Frandsen, the ‘Pigs have been less than stellar offensively lately (winning two games in a row by 1-0 scores). Unfortunately, one of the side-effects of platooning Kratz and Gosewisch has been to prevent them from getting into any kind of offensive rhythm. Both are excellent hitters, but Kratz’s average, once over .300, has been dropping steadily and Gosewisch hasn’t been as effective either lately.

We also have a lot of new guys up from Reading. Sure, they’ll get into the swing of things eventually, but in the meantime they’re not contributing much to the offense (not counting Kennelly’s “Welcome-to-AAA” homer). But as long as the starting pitchers and bullpen keep up their great work, we should be able to give the newcomers a chance to break in and still catch the PawSox for the division lead!

  2. We may have to wait for the IronPigs Media crack research to find out that answer Jim – I would like to know myself!

From what I found it was (ironically) the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1903 that had 56 consecutive scoreless innings which was 6 games in a row.

What? The IronPigs bat? I almost forgot with the amazing pitching that’s been going on here of late. Certainly, the hitting has been problematic at times but yet the ‘Pigs still seem to find a way to win.

I agree the Reading call-ups will take some time to gauge AAA pitching but these are a group of talented kids and it won’t take long until they are in the “swing” of things.

Always a pleasure to hear from you Jim!

If you happen to see this and are attending tonight’s game, we are going to be in the lower lot around 4 for some tailgating – stop on by!
