Less than 20 games remain in the International League season and IronPig Fan’s are teetering on the edge of their seats wondering if they will see a second straight postseason right here in the Lehigh Valley.
Last year the IronPigs claimed the wild card playoff spot for the team’s first ever playoff appearance. Currently our Pigs are in an exciting race with the Pawtucket Red Sox and SWB/Empire State Yankees.
The West and South divisions? Eh. Charlotte has a 9.5 game lead over Norfolk and Indianapolis a 10 game lead over the 2 time defending IL Champion Columbus Clippers. Unless the Tide rolls in and the Clippers start ringing bells.. those races are decided.
The Wild card race is just as exciting as the race for the Northern division… wait, it basically IS the race for the Northern division.
Wild Card Standings:
SWB – Leading the North Division
Pawtucket – Leading the Wild Card Race
Lehigh Valley – 1.5 behind Pawtucket
Columbus – 4.5 behind Pawtucket
Rochester – 4.5 behind Pawtucket
The Top four contenders for the spot are in the North Division. Unless these 3 teams seriously crap out… the North will again have the Wild Card.
This brings me to my opening question.. Will Lehigh Valley fans see playoff baseball?
Of course if the IronPigs get into the playoffs we will but what happens if the Pigs don’t and the Yankees do? The Yankees have been playing a road trip season while their home field is rebuilt.
Where will the Yankees play their home playoff games? Could they play at Coca Cola Park?
The setup of the IL playoffs has the North winner facing the Wild Card winner in the first round. Could the IronPigs and Yankees play a “potential” playoff series entirely at Coca Cola Park?
According to IL President Randy Mobley…
“All SWB Yankees home playoff games will be played in Rochester.”
So no Yankee home games at CCP for the playoffs…. Now we just have to cheer louder and get our Pigs into the playoffs!
OinK!

Looking at all schedules as strange as it seems the PIGS are the favorite to get in playoffs. Am i crazy??!! No, but general math is on our side. Yanks/Sox have 5 games against each other, we play Yanks for five, but we also have Toledo for four, there are 30 games under .500– OK here’s a little too much info, Cloyd will pitch on 5 days rest August 29, then will pitch final game on Labor day—IT’S A LOCK–PLAYOFF BASEBALL AT THE COKE
I love your optimisim PP, but I just can’t let my emotions get out of control. I’m already in a bad mood every time this team loses. For a minor league team, I know, crazy.
But, we’ve been a good home team, and functioned well in those “away” SWB games. Squish Those Frogs!
Only other note is that Toledo has been playing some better ball lately, despite their record, so we cannot take those games for granted. I’m feeling better about our rotation of late. Elarton is the guy who gets shelled periodically, but he’s had a couple close ones, too. Cloyd is Cloyd. Pettibone’s been very, very good. Cochran’s last couple starts have been good, and Brummett has been solid as a starter as well. I don’t know if we’ll get any pitchers back, like Rosenberg, and I don’t know if Lindblom has options–but I’m not sure I want him. Perhaps Luna will be back this weekend or so when Polanco comes off the DL. Sadly for us, I think we’ve seen the last of Kevin Frandsen. He belongs in the bigs.
