For those who didn’t go to, see, hear about or just check the score of today’s IronPig’s game… it wasn’t a completely miserable day.
Not mentioning the dreary rain on rain off weather that my lawn loves. Today’s Phillies’ game will impact the Pigs.
First, two IronPig alumni Erik Kratz and Freddy Galvis took charge in the bottom of the 9th to homer back to back giving the Phillies a 3-2 win over the Reds.
Before that happened though, Carlos Ruiz injured a hamstring and Ryan Howard is believed to be headed to the Disabled List.
We do know that Tyler Cloyd will be called up for a start on Tuesday. (More on that in a bit) We also heard that IronPig catcher Humberto Quintero was hanging out in the bullpen today before being sent to Miami. Both transactions will likely happen tomorrow.
So Ruiz is probably DL bound. Howard might take a few days to decide but I think he’ll end up on the list too.
Mayberry is always an option for first base as would IronPig Josh Fields or Cody Overbeck. Even Ruf has played first.
Now for Cloyd who was called up recently for a spot start. He was promptly sent back down after a good performance so the Phillies could bolster their bullpen. I haven’t seen any news on Adams status so there are plenty-o-spots opening on the Phil’s roster.
Starter John Lannan was posted to the DL on 4/20 stating that he could be out 6-8 weeks with a strained tendon in his knee. We are 4 weeks into that timeframe and I haven’t heard much on him. If he’s soon to return it might end up with Cloyd or Rosenberg returning to the Pigs.
My guess is varied leaning on how far Lannan’s recovery is. I’d say at least 2 starts for Cloyd and at least one 1st baseman will be called up if/when Howard hits the DL. If I had to go any route for 1st base I would go Fields.
What do you all think?
