I’m sad to see J-Mitch go. He was one of my favorites, and I never got to do that interview. And I’ve always liked D-Mitch.
But that’s the way it goes sometimes in the Minor Leagues,
See you at the park,
@Kram209

No word on the Big Z, so he isn’t going anywhere… 🙂
Well, not now. He’ll get access to trainers and facilities within the Phillies org to rehab his shoulder. Once healthy, he can get some work in and then opt out at any time. Whatever. I wish him well, of course, and happy to get some more starts out of him for the IronPigs if that’s the way it works out. All reports are that he’s been great in the IronPigs’ clubhouse.
How they could release Jermaine Mitchell is beyond me. The guy was a spark plug in the lineup and a sure catch/good arm in center field. Was he released because he had an opt-out clause? If that’s the case, frankly he would have been an upgrade in the Phillies outfield. Was he released because Tyson Gillies finally came off the DL? If that’s the case, Gillies should have started back in Reading.
How bizarre is it that, at a time when the Phillies are struggling for good young players who can hit well, they give one his walking papers?! For that matter, why haven’t they traded Chase Utley already and brought up Caesar Hernandez? He’s not only a good infielder, he’s a veritable hitting machine!
In the last 2 games, Caesar’s gone 8-for-9, for cryin’ out loud! And Utley could bring in some great pitching prospects (how ’bout a trade for Ivan Nova, for example?). No offense, Chase; you’re my favorite Phillie. But the team needs to rebuild and get what it can, while it can for its big names,.
But enough of my blathering. Reuben knows best, doesn’t he?
Well, we’ll find out if he knows best or not. The proof is in the pudding, as they say.
I think the overall plan in the Phillies org right now is to clean house. Everything’s kind of getting set up. We might be looking at the 2014 Phillies infield (Asche-Galvis-Hernandez) and Overbeck’s not too shabby. They really want to see what they have in Gillies because it may affect what they do in the trade market vis-a-vis outfielders. They’re not ready to bring Ruf up yet and they want to see more of the younger Castro, too. The fact is, there wasn’t going to be many at-bats for the excellent J-Mitch. Now that I’ve recovered from my shock and dismay from yesterday, I can see that this might be the best thing for Jermaine. He should be able to hook on with a triple-A team and might even put himself in position for a September call-up.
I just hope it doesn’t come back to haunt us–should he find his way to Durham or Norfolk or Buffalo or Pawtucket or Scranton it could impact our playoff chances and/or success.
