Next Year’s Bobbles

We’ll have plenty of post-mortem for the 2013 IronPigs yet to come, but for now consider this:

Which four players should be immortalized with an IronPigs bobble head figurine next season?  Here’s what I’ve got:

  1. Pettibone
  2. Diekman (bobble side-arm as in Lakewood?)
  3. Ruf
  4. Asche

What say you Noise Nation?  Any other ideas for giveaways or promos for next season?  I was hoping for a mini-ironrail, but that will have to wait, I guess.

See you at the park (for the National Championship Game),

How about a ryne sanderg bobblehead? i know he had a bronze statue giveaway but id like a sandberg bobblehead

  3. How about a talking Matt Provence bobblehead? Talks nonstop, no batteries required.

A 2-headed monster bobblehead: Cesar Hernandez and Freddy Galvis.

    Mustard and Ketchup squeeze dispensers.

A replica Marucci wooden bat just like the one the entire team was using on Labor Day, 2013.

But seriously, I think you hit the top four.

  4. Joe Savery … five consecutive seasons with IronPigs

  5. I think it should be Asche, Hernandez, Diekman and Ruf. (I think Pettibone will end up down here next year — or be traded or released. Can’t see him making the rotation again.) Hernandez has to be one of the four after the way he played for us this year.

In fact, I’d love to see a Freddie Galvis bobblehead too, but I’m not sure if I’d do it at the expense of one of the ‘Pigs who made the Bigs — or in Hernandez’s case, who went up in September and will make the Bigs in April.

  6. What is the criteria used to determine who gets a Bobblehead?

Is it soley based on future Major League star power in Philadelphia or wherever the trade winds blow he who is plying (this being so that the bobblehead actually becomes worth ‘significant’ money)?

Is it soley based on contributions to Lehigh Valley IronPigs baseball at Coca-Cola Park on the East Side of Allentown, Pennsylvania?

Is it a delicate balance between potential Major League star power and obvious minor league oblivion?

Is it __________ (fill in the blank)?

I would be interested to read the TRUTH … not so interested in the standard professional “feel-good” response that encourages parents to buy more tickets for their eight-year-olds, anything even remotely resembling something that could be interpreted to be promotion consideration for Lehigh Valley Health Network or, for that matter, or some kind of cleverly hidden plug for any heroic, noble non-profit charity.

I must sincerely apologize here, but I already used up all my positive statements at this blog this season … (truth be told, it WAS a total disgrace to blow the once-in-a-lifetime inaugural Iron Rail Trophy after being up seven games to five — but that’s strictly OFF the record here)

    😉

    • I’m not sure quite how to answer this, but I’m disappointed by the ironrail loss as well. I was so looking forward to the replica ironrail trophy figurine giveaway as well as a myriad of taunting ammunition for next year’s series. It’s not to be, though. We’ll have to get them next time. At least they don’t get to play us at home only on weekends next year.

I don’t have any inside info on how they choose the bobbles. It seems, in some order, by observation:
      1. Fame
      2. Phillies Connection
      3. Major League implications
      4. Fan Favorites
      5. local connection

Guys who’ve graduated to the majors like J Happ, Mayberry, Brown,
      Phillies who’ve rehabbed: Howard, Victorino,
      Local connection: Moyer, Schneider
      Phillies connection: Kalas, Gillick
      fan faves: Tracy, Thompson

Using that info is how I came up with my list. Chooch rehabbed this year, but might not be with them next year so I eliminated. Not sure where Morgan will start next year–or Martin for that matter. Diek seems to have figured it out, and the nasty lefty is almost a lock to start the season in Philly next season. Even if Pettibone’s back, I see him spending a significant amount of time in Philly–and he already did most of this season. Asche and Ruf are the most certain to be with Philly next year.

I like Decal’s idea of a double-headed, double play bobble with Galvis and Hernandez. That would be cool and unique. If they do it, they should give Decal credit for the idea–or at least a few bucks off his tickets? I know. And Provence is a good idea, too. Press a button, “CUT ON AND MISSED” then you can add, “…the bus.”

As Dan said, the Sandberg thing’s been done, with the bobble and the statue. How about a Manuel bobble? Not much connection, though.

And, yeah, they’ll be sponsored. Think of the biggest companies with ironpigs’ affilitation: LVHN, Service Electric, Toyota, Coca Cola, Nacci Printing, PPL… and that’s who you’ll likely see. There have been a couple without a sign. Worley is the one I have here at the house.

  7. That is the first I ever heard of such an idea — a double-headed bobble-head … That is great stuff, no doubt.

    • If you’re going to have a doubled-headed bobble, it’s got to be Hernandez and Galvis. One day they’re going to be the best double-play combination in Major League Baseball.
