Outrighted by the Phillies to Triple-A Lehigh Valley: LHP Cesar Jimenez, RHP J.C. Ramirez, and outfielders Roger Bernadina and Casper Wells.
Bernadina hit just .187 in 75 at bats for the Phillies after being acquired as a free agent on August 21st from the Nationals. He had hit just .178 for Washington in 2013 after hitting .291 in 2012. Casper Wells was acquired off the waiver wire from the White Sox on August 8th. He had just 1 hit in 24 at bats with the Phillies.
Jimenez was 4-2 3.12 in 66.1 innings with the Ironpigs in 2013. He threw just 17 innings for the Phillies and was 1-1 with a 3.71 ERA. J.C. Ramirez is still only 25 years old and was 4-2 4.71 with the Ironpigs last season. In his time with the Phillies he was 0-1 7.50 in 24 innings. He was one of the players acquired when the Phillies sent Cliff Lee to Seattle in December, 2009.
The Phillies currently have 30 players on their 40 man roster with another 6 on the 60 Day Disabled List (Adams, Horst, Kendrick, Lannan, Pettibone, Howard).

John Lannan was outrighted from the Phillies 40 man roster but refused his assignment to the minors, choosing instead to become a free agent.
Roger Bernadina, Casper Wells, and J.C. Ramirez have all elected free agency instead of accepting their outright assignment to the minors.
According to the International League Transactions page, Zach Miner, Michael Martinez and Pete Orr all elected free agency on October 7 after being outrighted to the Ironpigs by the Phillies on October 3.
Have no fear. Ruben has resigned Michael Martinez. Oh Boy! That’s all I need to see to know The Free Fall will continue. The next time you see Ruin Tomorrow, sorry I mean Ruben Amaro maybe you’d suggest he get some real outfielders who can hit instead of putting all these scrawny little infielders in the outfield.
OOPS! Can I reply to myself. Just saw a note that the resigning of MM was a Twitter rumor denied by the Phillies. You mean you can’t believe everything you see on the Internet. But I stand by the rest of the post.
Depending on how the offseason goes, I still wouldn’t be surprised if the Phillies offer MM a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training but I’d rate his chances of making the Phillies as an extreme longshot, and I’m not sure MM would welcome a full season with the Ironpigs. The Phillies need to get younger and getting rid of a 31 year old with a .187 lifetime BA is a good place to start.
Make no mistake, MM is NOT an MLB player. But, given his play for the IronPigs this past season, I’d have no problem welcoming him back for 2014. However, as he’s not even a capable replacement piece for the Phillies, I echo Decal’s thoughts and predict he won’t be back. Also, I expect his “handlers” would like to go someplace warmer… 😉
According to the 10/24/13 International League transactions, Cesar Jimenez has elected to become a free agent.
